The Adventures are Year-Round at RMOC
Let the seasons determine your stoke with the help of Rocky Mountain Outdoor Center. A prime location in Buena Vista allows for the ultimate use of both the Colorado Rocky Mountains in the winter and the Arkansas River in the summer.
When winter rolls in, the guides at RMOC look up to the mountains, trading their rafts and kayaks for snowboards and skis. Passionate about their craft, guided tours from RMOC offer expert knowledge to guests with a wide range of abilities and interests. Riders can discover the backcountry from a high level of experience or approach from a fun, thrilling ride through fresh powder.
Go technical on a Backcountry Terrain Selection course, where you’ll learn everything from basic map reading to safety measures, like how to dig a snow pit and analyze the stability. This course is designed for skiers competent on black diamond terrain. Completion of an intro course is preferred. This is a great option for out-of-town skiers and snowboarders who have the skills and want to discover the routes in a new area. Nothing beats following the lines of someone who knows exactly where to go. Skis and splitboards are provided by Weston Backcountry, making this course an incredible deal with great gear.
Sign up for Pow Surfing, for an incredibly fun and casual adventure down the mountain. No experience is necessary for this one; just arrive pumped and ready to ride. With access to amazing terrain on Monarch Pass, look forward to multiple laps in deep powder with mellow, gladed trees. All equipment is included except boots and personal clothing.
The annual shedding of layers means that summer has come, and it’s time to swap snowboards for surfboards. Luckily, RMOC has a course for that. Catch a wave in Colorado with the River Surfing course, where you’ll learn how to paddle into a standing river wave. Free wetsuit rentals are available, and all equipment is included. With an American Canoe Association certified Badfish team member on each course, you will be in good guided hands.
Experience rafting in 2023 with one of RMOC’s multi-level rafting courses. Start with Rowing Essentials to learn basic strokes, swimmer rescue, and flip recovery. Work your way up to Downriver Rowing, Raft Maneuvers, and Advanced Rowing Training. Both private and custom group lessons are available.
