You can feel it in the crisp morning air…. it’s almost here…. pre-season fitness article time!
And of course, snow too.
Beware the soon-to-appear avalanche of “Do These 3 Exercises to Be Primed for the Season” articles that try to fool you into thinking there is an ‘easy’ way to prepare for and excel at mountain sports!
I mean, come on – you already know that three exercises are not enough to get you ready for the snow season, right? Especially if done only a month or two before the lifts get fired up. To be at the top of your snow sliding (and flying) game on Day One, you have to train like an athlete all year round – the top athletes don’t believe in an “off-season”.
But let’s face it: unless you’re already on the US Olympic Team, your options for working out at a gym facility that provides appropriate space and guidance for Mountain Athlete training is extremely limited. Hiring a personal trainer is the right idea, except for the fact that the PT most likely can’t get past the blue runs on the mountain.
Cross-style group training is also thought to be ideal, but the workouts are often random and not sports specific enough. Will doing ‘handstand walks’ really help your snow skills? Definitely not. And when your goal is improved performance on the mountain, you need a specific, progression-based program that has a level of consistency and long-term focus.
Fortunately, there is an exciting opportunity in Denver Colorado; Peak Performance Personal Training: Home of the Mountain Athlete is where Jeff “Coach Jb” Brier creates unique (sometimes brutal), highly effective training plans for Mountain Athletes of all disciplines that translate to real results on the slopes. From professional boardercross racers and amateur snowsport competitors who seek a significant physical and mental competitive edge, to weekend warriors who strive to log more vertical and slay increasingly difficult terrain and park features.
