Compression socks by Vitalsox increase hiking comfort

If you’ve gotten a headache or sprained an ankle, chances are you took ibuprofen to relieve the pain and reduce swelling. When inflammation is reduced, circulation is increased. Better circulation means fresh, oxygenated blood flushes through your body helping it to heal and optimally function.

VitalsoxVitalsox, made in Italy, takes these same anti-inflammatory principles and applies them to socks. They use gradual compression in their socks, allowing the blood from your feet to gently get pushed back up your legs, towards your heart, in order to be re-oxygenated.

I took a pair of Vitalsox out for a few days of use recently. My feet felt snug in the socks, and despite the heat of the surrounding air, they didn’t overheat as I carried 60 pound loads up a steep hillside. The silver ions embedded in the sock fibers kept my socks from getting stinky, while the “hollow-core micro denier fiber” was soft against the skin and allowed my feet to breathe and remain blister free (no hots spots).

After we finished hiking up the steep hillside and talus slope, I took my shoes and socks off and prepared to settle in for the evening. My feet, instead of being red and hot, bloated with blood and chaffed, looked and felt ‘normal.’
