I am an overachiever. It’s not secret. So when I think of doing a big ride, I think very big. In Boulder, there are several rides you can do. Common ones: Flagstaff, Jamestown, Magnolia, etc etc. Add Super in front of it, and you’ve got yourself a big ride.
My favorite thing to do with Super rides are to add dirt to them. Some examples in case you want to take advantage of the last few weeks of fall:
Super Walker
Start in Boulder, ride up and over Flagstaff, loop around Walker Ranch singletrack once or twice, ride back up Flagstaff and back to Boulder. Bring food and water, there aren’t many places (or any really) to refuel… or if you want to go roadie, you can just do Super Flagstaff and take out the Walker Ranch part.
Super South St. Vrain
Ride Lefthand Canyon –> Jamestown –> past Jamestown up to S. St. Vrain trailhead, ride the loop, and come back. Or if you want to go roadie, you can do Super Jamestown and take the road all the way to Peak to Peak high way.
Super Magnolia
Ride up Canyon to one of the steepest roads in the Front Range, take Magnolia all the way to Peak to Peak which dumps you out at the West Mag Trailhead. Shred trails, come back. Or if you want to be really ambitious, ride to Eldora!
Super Brainard
Ride up through Ward via Lefthand Canyon (or you can ride up past Gold Hill and come down Sawmill to get to Ward if you want more gravel). Then ride up to Brainard and right before the entrance to the park, you can hang a left to ride Sourdough Trail, or a right to some more techy St. Vrain trails.
Super Hall
My version – Take Lee Hill, go up Old Stage, left on Lefthand, right after 2 miles to get to the Heil Ranch Trailhead. Take the Heil Ranch trails (Wapiti, Wild Turkey, Picture Rock) to Lyons. Make a right, then a left on the paved road which you will follow until it ends at the highway. Hang a right on the highway and a left at Hall Ranch, do the loop there and then come back. Stop in Lyons to fuel up!
Get in your dose of technical riding too.
If you want to get really ambitious, you could make some huge loops that are multi-day, but we will save that for another day. If you have a “Super” loop you’d like to share, feel free!!
