A bluebird sky and a sea of trees are the best ways to begin any weekend, and there were plenty of both on our hike up to Thunder Lake in Rocky Mountain National Park. This 11.8 mile roundtrip hike is mostly under the cover of trees, but every now and then, the view opens up to stunning panoramas of the park. Hikers will gain over 2000 feet of elevation as they walk, but the exertion is 100% worth it when you catch your first glimpse of Thunder Lake. Framed by mountains and wildflowers, the lake is truly stunning. If you’re not up for the full length of this strenuous hike, the trailhead also leads to Ouzel Falls for a 5.4 mile hike.
