Postcards from the Weekend: Maroon Lake

Maroon Lake is one of the most iconic places in Colorado, if not the whole United States. Photographers and hikers alike flock to this wilderness area to see the majestic Maroon Bells towering above the valley. If you can, try and get to the Bells at sunset time, when the afternoon light tinges the rock their namesake deep maroon color. You can drive right up to this lake, but if you want to get away from the crowds there’s a mile and a half hike up to Crater Lake. This lake is also framed by the Bells but has substantially less people. There’s really no way you can go wrong, though. The Elk mountain range is stunning no matter where you view it or who you view it with.
