Hiking
Explore wide open spaces without fighting the crowds. Flaming Gorge Country is the perfect place to discover on foot with hundreds of miles of diverse and scenic hiking trails.
Bear Canyon Bootleg Trail
Stay close to the water and take in amazing views of the lake and Red Canyon on the 3-mile Bear Canyon Bootleg trail. The views at the end of this walk are especially breathtaking at sunset.
Basset Springs Loop Trail
Looking for a steep climb that is challenging but will reward you with unforgettable vistas? Try the Basset Springs Loop for a 4-mile trek through groves of aspen and conifer forests. This loop is especially spectacular in the fall.
Fishing
Flaming Gorge Reservoir is the crown jewel for fishing in Sweetwater County and home to the state’s largest fish. Anglers can expect a variety of fish including burbot, brown trout, channel catfish, kokanee salmon, lake trout, rainbow trout and smallmouth bass. Here are a few fishing hot spots traveling south.
Firehole Canyon
Firehole Canyon’s waters are located under towering North and South Chimney Rocks, offering spectacular views between catches. Take advantage of the boat ramp, picnic area and campsites before heading farther south.
Currant Creek & Buckboard Marina
Currant Creek, across from Buckboard Marina, is a great place to catch some fish. Stock up on bait and lures at the marina on the west side, and then head over to the east side to drop a line.
Linwood Bay & Lucerne Valley Marina
Continue to Linwood Bay, located near Lucerne Valley Marina. The area is famous for trophy fishing, unparalleled canyon views and abundant wildlife—including fish!
Flaming Gorge Dam
Experience one of the world’s most renowned trout fisheries just below the Flaming Gorge Dam. Rainbows are abundant just below the dam, and browns more common downstream.

Whether you enjoy riding amidst flora, along the water or through the pines, Flaming Gorge Country can host the perfect mountain biking adventure.
Wilkins Peak Trail System
Find the best of Sweetwater County’s side of the reservoir at the number one trail system in Wyoming, Wilkins Peak Trail System. Warm up your legs on the lower-elevation and easier trails along the Green River such as 10 Ring and then get technical on Pick Your Poison. Riders of all skill levels will enjoy this mountain biking destination and its scenic views.
