Alan Bonds and Charlie Kelly–the Legends You Don’t Know

Quick post, but I wanted to drive interested bike geeks to Charlie Kelly’s blog. Kelly is one of the two or three forefathers of mountain biking–a pioneer who developed the sport we know today. He, along with Alan Bonds, Joe Breeze, Gary Fisher, and Charlie Cunningham, were among the first to adapt Schwinn Excelsiors to make the “clunker” bikes raced on the slopes of Mount Tam in the ’70s. Click through to Kelly’s blog and check out some fantastic images from the era. There are also vintage posters from the Repack on the site, as well as articles on the first editions of the Pearl Pass ride.

Click through and check it out–great stuff if you’re into cycling history and mountain biking.
