Wolf Creek Ski Area, the resort known for “the most snow in Colorado”, is officially OPEN. And, thanks to stacking storms, it’s tagline is proving true. While they’re still considering it “early season conditions” across the ski area, the most recent storm dumped 16 inches of snow and prompted the opening of the upper mountain; just in time, too, as another ~10-20 anticipated inches are currently falling.
But if that isn’t enough, here are 5 reasons to add Wolf Creek Ski Area to your ski destination list this season.
Powder
As of Thanksgiving, Wolf Creek Ski Area is measuring 57 inches of snowfall to date, with the mid-mountain base measuring 32 inches. Early season obstacles are definitely present, but so are powder stashes. As storms stack up and dump more snow, tree runs and back bowls will be the locations of choice.
Bloody Marys
The Pathfinder Bar, located in the Wolf Creek Lodge, has a great selection of Colorado beers, but their Bloody Mary is top on the list of must-try beverages. Open from 11 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., you can get a few runs in (first chair is 9 a.m,), and swing into the Lodge just in time for a friendly face to take your drink order.
Green Chile Cheeseburgers
Speaking of the main lodge (Wolf Creek Lodge), if you’re looking for one of the best Green Chile Cheeseburgers along the Divide, you’ve come to the right place. If burgers aren’t your jam, just do yourself a favor and order up their Santa Fe style green chile. It keeps us coming back season after season.
Base Camp
If you prefer to pack your own food, Base Camp is the place for you. Located next to the Raven Lift, this very family-friendly lodge has some food/snack options available, but it’s the only base area lodge at Wolf Creek Ski Area allows coolers (inside). So, pack up your picnic lunch and head for Base Camp – there is also great outdoor seating!
Ski School & Specialty Clinics
Finally, if you’re just starting out, looking to hone your skiing or snowboarding skills, or want some one-on-one expert advise, Wolf Creek’s Ski School is a great option. They offer private classes for kids and adults, children’s opportunities, and specially clinics and programs (which often come with discounted lift tickets). Best of all, their instructors are incredibly knowledgeable, fun and patient with all learners and experience levels.
