Boise, Idaho: With multiple direct flights from Denver or a scenic 12-hour road trip, Boise serves up a quick escape for cycling minded travelers.
EAT
There’s no shortage of delicious, locally sourced food in Boise. Surprisingly, there are not many eateries that focus on potatoes save the Boise Fry Company which serves six different kinds of fried taters in five different cuts to maximize the flavor and beauty of the various spuds. Burgers are available on the side. For sit-down service, albeit in a relaxed casual and comfortable environment The Boise Fork Restaurant is “Loyal to Local.” Try the mouthwatering Local Ale-Braised Short Ribs.
SLEEP
Location is key for adventure accommodations and The Modern Hotel is the perfect spot for biking adventures in Boise (see PLAY below). The rooms are comfortable, the bar serves simple and tasty meals and cocktails which draw a crowd of regular locals year-round and in the summer live music gets things jamming on the open patio with its moody gas fire pits. If you didn’t bring your own bike, Idaho Mountain Touring is right around the corner from The Modern and can outfit you with road, mountain or cruiser bikes as needed.
PLAY
Boise is a bike town. Along with over 130 miles of mountain biking trails in the adjacent foothills that are part of the Ridge to Rivers project, Boise is bike commuter friendly and hosts numerous bike specific events throughout the year including Boise Bike Week running May 10-17 this year. Throughout the festival, there are clinics and events specific to commuting, road riding, mountain biking, adaptive cycling, maintenance, kids, womens groups and more.
