Edward Wimmer was training for his first marathon in 1999. His dad used to worry when he went out on long runs without any identification. One Saturday morning, Wimmer was out on a long run when he came face to face with a black pick-up truck that put him into a ditch on the side of the road. “From that ditch, my father’s concern started to make sense,” Wimmer says. A few months later, the two Wimmers launched Road ID, a way to identify athletes seriously injured when they’re out training. The bracelets feature an engraved plate with two custom lines of text (your name and city, for example), followed by phone and web contact info so first responders can access your Emergency Response Profile, containing emergency contact information and pertinent medical data. “It speaks for you when you can’t speak for yourself,” Wimmer says. roadid.com
