Are you looking for your next adventure this summer? How about the best stage race in the world? That’s right, it’s in our backyard in Colorado with some amazingly scenic, challenging, and rip roaring fun singletrack.
Enter BRECK EPIC
I’ve raced my bike in 8 countries, all of which have been mountain bike stage racing. What is mountain bike stage racing? It’s a multi-day timed event where both the overall time and individual stage times are scored. The start and finish is set, the course is marked, and there is support and aide stations. It’s the ultimate mountain bike vacation. Who wouldn’t want to do a supported ride for several days? Whether you race or ride, it’s up to you.
2013 is the 5th year for the Breck Epic. I raced the 6 day distance twice; once as a coed duo in 2010, and once as a solo female in 2011. The icing is that I got winners jerseys from both years! I was terribly disappointed to miss out on racing the Breck Epic last year and am glad to be back for 2013. Today, I did something different. I signed up for the 3 day distance. I’m hoping to do the Leadville 100 and the 3 day Breck Epic back to back. Last year, I raced Leadville 100 with a cast and broken wrist so I need another crack at that too!
I recommend the 6 day, but the 3 day is a great option if you have other commitments or maybe you’re not ready to go 6 day big before you figure out what this stage racing thing is. You also meet some of the coolest people at stage races and you get to hang out with them all week!
Breck is great because the logistics are so easy. You can camp or you can stay in a condo and cook your own food. The start is in Breck every day making it easy with no serious transfers unlike some of the other stage races I’ve done that start and finish in different towns.
Oh yeah, and it’s one of my favorite places on Earth to ride.

Plus, you get a belt buckle when you finish…and it may or may not have curse words engraved on the back.
