We are deep into summer and most of the snow in the high country has melted away leaving amazing views and gorgeous wildflowers. With all of our prodigious Colorado peaks, it may be intimidating or hard to pick some high country trails to ride. Where to go in the backcountry playground if you want to go mountain biking?
Here are some of my favorite summer trails to ride… although there are many, many more fun trails to ride!
Snowmass ski area trails. Lined with expansive aspen groves, wildflowers, and steep trails – you get the views and a challenge.
Monarch Crest Trail
Located outside Salida, up towards Monarch Ski Area
High altitude, great views, fun trail!
Searle/Kokomo Pass
Located near Copper Mountain.
Epic mountain views, time above treeline
Kenosha Pass – Breckenridge, CO
Rolling, fun trail. Starts off 285 and can make a loop, or end in Breck. This is also a great fall ride with all the beautiful Aspen trees.
Hermosa Creek – Durango, CO
Ripping fast fun trail. Some of the “nicest” singletrack – swoopy!
Junction Creek – Durango, CO
Similar to Hermosa Creek. Parallels the river and has some roller-coaster like trail ending on a mountain top!
Gold Dust Trail – Como, CO
Flume trail from Boreas Pass Rd to Como. There are some planked stream crossing, fast descents, and chunky sections.
401 – Crested Butte, CO
One of the most scenic singletrack trails in Colorado.
There’s just the tip of the iceberg if you’re wondering, “Hmmm, where to ride this weekend?!”
