After photographer Chris Jones’ house burned down in a wildfire, he thought the photos from his 1968 climb were gone forever. Years later, fellow climber Dick Dorworth, uncovered his copy of the photos documenting how these two, along with Yvon Chouinard, Lito Tejada-Flores and Doug Tompkins drove 8,000 miles south, surfing, skiing and repairing their 1965 Ford Econoline van along the way to climb Fitz Roy in Argentinian Patagonia. This six month adventure included 30 days in ice caves, with numerous re-supply trips, waiting for the weather to clear to claim a new route on the third ascent to the summit.
