They say the best way to ensure a strong marriage is to share some of the same passions. Well if that is the case then Matt and Jessica Hess should be set for life. As owners of the River North Brewery the couple get to indulge in their passion of creating “yeast-centric” Belgian-style ales.
Opened in 2012 in the RiNo district of Denver the brewery has rapidly made a name for themselves with their sublimely smooth suds. In the few short years they have been brewing their beers have achieved high rankings on the websites Beeradvocate.com and Ratebeer.com. Using Belgian-style yeasts and not much else they produce drier beers that are smoother and less filling. Perfect for summer.
They produce a series of five-year round 22oz bombers that run the gambit of flavors from an Imperial Saison to a Quadrupel. Their fledgling barrel-aging program produces some of the more unique beers along the Front Range in limited release. And, they currently offer three of their beers in 16oz cans. Business has been good for River North and they are currently looking to either expand or relocate to keep up with demand.
Farm House is a session beer without much complexity, but it does showcase their ability to create a malt forward beer with subtle flavors. It pours with a hazed copper color and an aroma filled with hints of wheat, fruit, and wheat. It hits you with a bright and lively flavor containing hints of pepper and fruits with an excellent dry finish. At only 4.6% Alc/Vol you could easily quaff a few pint cans of this after a day chasing the trout as they fight their way upstream.
