Northwest alpinist and athlete, Blake Herrington, has published a stellar new guide to the Cascades, Cascades Rock, which includes up-to-date information, color pics, and dialed topos. It’s a must-have for anybody climbing in the range and all mountain guides going through the alpine program at the AMGA.
Compiled over his long and successful career as one of the Pacific Northwest’s finest climbers, Herrington has produced a beautiful, essential guidebook for everybody willing to brave the long approaches, heinous bushwhacks, and fantastic climbing in the Cascades.
Cascades Rock reminds me of Steve Levin’s superb Eldo guidebook. Less so because of the color images and refined presentation, but I think more so because it includes enjoyable anecdotes and a master’s “feel” for the routes and rock therein.
It’s the damn book I wanted when I was prepping routes for my guide exams up there! Informative, accurate, and helpful.
Congrats to Blake on producing a quality book and one any climber should grab before visiting what’s the most underrated range in the US–the Cascades.
