Free Avy Clinic

This Tuesday, November 27, at Highland Tap and Burger (2219 W. 32nd), Markus Beck will be hosting a free avalanche seminar–and the first 50 attendees get a free pint. Woh! There will also be a silent auction, with great gear like Icelantic skis and Dynafit/Marmot swag.

Markus Beck is an IFMGA guide and native of the mountains above Davos, Switzerland. He’s also, for full disclosure, my boss at Alpine World Ascents, a small, custom guide operation that offers avalanche education (AIARE courses), ski, rock, and alpine guiding, as well as some canyoneering. He’ll be showing slides, vidz, and discussing how to not die in the backcountry. The show runs from 6 until 9 p.m., so get there, grab some food, and hang out.

It’s nearly winter, so keep your eyes peeled for cool opportunities like these. The folks at Neptune have offered free beacon clinics in the past and Markus does several of these nights throughout the season. Get down there and check it out!
