Remember Roy Knickman, the super-strong 7-Eleven (and later Coors Light) rider who was known as a fearsome descender and all-around good guy? Flatted out of the break at Roubaix one year?! That guy! Well, he’s still a good dude, with a great family now, too. Bummer is, his 16-year-old son, Andreas, has bone cancer, though he’s battling through it.
Knickman’s a former teammate of Andy Hampsten and I’m sure back in the day, Knickman did his fair share of working for Andy. Now it’s Hampstar’s turn to return the favor–Andy, and his ultra-minxy wife Elaine, will award one of their week-long to-die-for bike tours in either the French Alps or Tuscany, to some lucky person who donates $5 or more to the Andreas Knickman Kick-Cancer-in-the-Ass fund. In fact, for each $5 you donate, you’ll get another chance to win.
Having guided trips for Andy and Elaine (I know–but it’s a judgment call–take it up with them while you’re there), I can say they are FUN. Insane food, the best roads, too much goodness! French Alps trip will be a blast–start in Lyon, then head to the Galibier, l’Alpe d’Huez, etc…drink too much French red, you get the drill.
So, follow THIS LINK and you’ll get the fully skinny, including on how to donate. And if you win and I’m guiding the trip, I promise to push you on one (1) pass or col. Strength-permitting.
