Late April means spring runoff, cycling, and hanging up the boards, right? Not so fast! Before you chuck the skis into storage, let’s get together for a snow-ride-whitewater event! The “Pole, Pedal, Paddle” race traverses the Gunnison Valley this April 28, giving you an awesome mulitsport tour from Crested Butte down to Gunny. Competitors begin with a rando race up and down Mount Crested Butte, then transition to the bike to race down valley, before putting in at North Bridge and paddling down to Gunnison.
You’ll have to arrive the day before for the pre-race meeting at The Brick pizzeria, in CB (at 6:30 p.m., 223 Elk Avenue). All participants must attend the meeting, but fear not–the pizza’s good and they’ll have beer specials. The next day, Sunday the 28th, the gun goes off at 10 a.m. and you’ll hopefully splash into Gunny around 2.
Good fun, so wax your boards one last time, lube that chain, and get ready for some whitewater!
