Reel Rock 7-Another Year, Another Orgy

reel rock 7

Since 2006 the Reel Rock Film Tour has offered the climbing-obsessed a yearly orgy of all things adventure. Sure, climbing is the mainstay of the event, but the crew always throws in something unexpected…remember Sketchy Andy? I caught the latest Reel Rock, number 7, at Chautauqua Auditorium and if you missed, you are bummin’! But fear not: the Tour returns to Colorado for several dates. October 10, you can catch it at Lone Tree (south Denver), October 17 in Fort Collins, in the Springs on the 18th, Golden on the 19th, then Gunnison on the 26th, before finishing on November 16 in Silverthorne.

This year’s collection of films included Conrad Anker’s, Jimmy Chin’s, and Renan Ozturk’s epic documentary of their first ascent of the prow of the Shark’s Fin on Mount Meru, in India. In 2008, the trio was hammered on the route and vowed never to return. Bitten by the bug, though, they can’t stay away…despite a nearly fatal injury to Ozturk the winter before their fall climb. “The Shark’s Fin” was the highlight of the evening for me, but check out the far-out soloing by Alex Honnold, as well as the rollicking posse of Brits who come to slay offwidths in the American desert in “The Wide Boys.”

If you missed Reel Rock when it came through Boulder, log on now and get your tix for one of the upcoming dates–it’s well worth and a total blast, as usual. Great stuff!
