This Saturday, April 9, we embark upon The Five Peaks ski-mountaineering race in Breckenridge. With 8650 feet of vert, probably some heinous descents of bumped-out bowls, a couple of ridge walks, and a long-ass opening climb to the summit of Peak 9 (approx 4000 feet!), it’s going to be full-value. It’s a partner race, too, so no whining and cracking halfway–I hope.
I’ll pack a camera, though I can’t promise pics. Mike Kloser, the former mountain-bike pro and Grand Traverse winner, crushed the field last year, cruising the course in four hours, 10 minutes. I’ll snap a shot of his bum at the start and wish him well.
If I survive, look for an update Sunday or Monday!
