I’m fresh off the Jordan Kobert wedding in Sonoma County, California. Great event: I managed to only put my foot in my mouth once during the three-day binge. Phew.
The question is, is Sonoma County the best road riding in the US? I’ve not ridden in Boone, North Carolina, which they say is stellar…but perhaps you can enlighten us.
King Ridge, Skaggs, Geysers, Pine Flat…these are the jewels in the crown of Sonoma cycling…but how do they compare to Boulder’s best? Boone’s?Anywhere else?
I gotta say, the weather in Sonoma is damn hot in summer and rainy in winter, which tilts the scales towards Boulder, in my opinion. Boulder’s crowded as hell now, though, so maybe it’s a toss-up. Chime in.
The pic above is on the lower slopes of Pine Flat…which is anything but flat: the final K is an absolute crippler, with a good, 200m section of 23 percent and plenty of 10-14 percent riding, too. After a 12-mile approach. Yeah, she hurts. But you’re also at 2500 feet–so there’s oxygen to burn.
Where’s your fave road ride in the States? Do tell.
