“My oh my, what a wonderful day we’re having…” plays slowly through my wandering mind as I look across Monarch Mountain’s freshly opened Mirkwood Basin. Our season was off to a slow start this year. We waited, patiently. We prayed to the snow gods. We stopped shaving, skipped washing our socks and shaved facial hair into non-traditional works of art. Then, we waited some more…and prayed some more. And suddenly, the systems began working in the best way they know how – in this humble, free-heeler’s opinion – dumping inch upon inch upon foot upon smile-inducing foot of our season’s lifeblood.
What a wonderful day, indeed.
