Soak it Up: 3 Reasons You Need to Visit Desert Reef Hot Springs

Are you looking for a unique escape this fall? Desert Reef is the perfect soaking-centric getaway! Whether you’re looking to take a break from the hustle and bustle of the city for a few hours or seeking a fully-immersive tranquil Colorado high desert experience, Desert Reef can provide.

First opened in 1986 as a “labor of love” by the original founders, Desert Reef was created to build a community seeking refuge from the world. Since reopening in 2022, Desert Springs has undergone extensive expansion and renovations and during our stay, we quickly realized just how special this place truly is. It is quite apparent – through the kindness of their staff and comfort of their accommodations – they are staying true to their roots and continuing to provide visitors with a unique opportunity to experience the rejuvenating qualities of this tranquil oasis.

So, whether you’re looking for a quick post-work dip or a longer overnight stay, here are three reasons you should book your trip to Desert Reef Hot Springs now!

Day use pools are the perfect post-work soak

These hot springs are a hidden gem in the foothills. The Florence, CO-based mineral spring is just an hour’s drive from Colorado Springs and Pueblo (less than two hours from Denver) and provides an unexpected, yet much appreciated secluded silence you can’t help but melt into and come out renewed.

Overnight accommodations offer a unique experience

Believe it or not, the nights at Desert Reef can be even more beautiful than the days. Their overnight lodging includes two options. If you’re looking for a unique experience close to the main soaking area, book an Airstream camper. Featuring a queen bed, private powder room, and guaranteed amazing views, they’re a great affordable option close to the general soaking area.

The Tiny houses on the property are next-level accommodations. These cozy, custom built beauties feature unique furnishings and spectacular views. Situated a bit further away from the main pools, they are also a wonderfully private option.

Whichever you choose, prepare yourself for mesmerizing star-studded skies, howling coyotes, and revitalizing soaking opportunities.

Desert Reef leads with inclusivity

With surreal views of the Wet Mountains, Desert Reef offers visitors therapeutic waters with a focus on maintaining a non judgemental environment focused on inclusion. All are welcome in this unique space and the current management maintains their goal for “all guests to leave changed – relaxed, inspired and open to the endless possibility that lies ahead of them”.

During our stay, we were immediately met with the sound of calming music and kind voices. The front desk staff were inviting and beyond welcoming, sharing the story of Desert Reef and walking with us to the “Cholla” Tiny House.

At the main pool, some visitors kept to themselves while others were inviting and chatty. We arrived unsure of what kind of experience to expect and left with our metaphorical cups full from good conversation and peaceful views.
