Summertime in Colorado is a blur of outdoor festivals highlighting the long and always growing list of things that make the Centennial State great, and the Copper Mountain Music Festival is no exception. In its second year, the fest will once again fuse together live music, breathtaking views and cold beer for three days of fun in the sun at Copper Mountain’s vibrant Center Village. July 8-10, six nationally-touring bands will take the stage—sending sounds of bluegrass, blues, and rootsy country rock out into the snow-capped mountain peaks of the nearby TenMile mountain range. But the Copper Mountain Music Festival isn’t just a one trick pony…
Check out these five reasons to attend this fun and outdoor-centric festival this summer.
It’s Free
Unlike many of the fests that take place this time of year—the Copper Mountain Music Festival is free of charge. All you need is a BYO fold-out chair and some cash to spend in the surrounding eateries and drinkeries, and you’re set.
The views
Soak in the picturesque festival backdrop of majestic mountain peaks reaching up to caress a blue sky sprinkled with clouds and rays of sun. It’s truly hard to beat an afternoon spent outside in the Colorado high-country. Plan on losing yourself in the natural beauty that is the Copper Mountain Music Festival venue.
It’s Not Just Your Typical Music Festival
Music is in the event title, but that isn’t all this unique festival is offering throughout the three-day weekend. SUP lessons, a “How to Jam” workshop, a Pedal for Pints community bike ride, a free fly-fishing clinic, and mountain yoga are also on tap throughout the fest. Spend the day adventuring in the surrounding mountains, and spend the night taking in some good live tunes.
Fireworks
Be sure to not miss Saturday’s line-up of events because they end with fireworks. Following the final musical act of the night (around 9:30 pm), the mountainsides that engulf Copper Mountain resort and the waters of West Lake will light up in a array of colors, sparkles and shapes.
The Music Line-Up
The Copper Mountain Music Festival kicks off on Friday night with a “How to Jam” workshop with Travis Lawson, followed by North Carolina-based singer-songwriter, Aaron Burdett. The swinging country crooners, Asleep at the Wheel, will take the stage on Saturday along with Balsam Range, and Colorado-favorites Bonnie and The Clydes will kick off the final afternoon, followed by Kentucky-born Bluegrass artist, Dave Adkins. Musically inclined yourself? Bring your instrument and join in on one of the many acoustic jams scheduled for the weekend.
Elevation Outdoors Magazine is the title sponsor of this year’s Copper Mountain Music Fest, and EO team members will be on site at the fest all weekend along with the Live Outside and Play team who will be showing off some of their favorite gear from: La Sportiva, ENO, Lifestraw, Crazy Creek, Mountain House, Farm2Feet, IceMule and DeLorme.
