We already know that beer and skiing go well together, but the Rocky Mountain Underground (RMU) ski company took the relationship to the next level and opened up a taproom and showroom. Based out of Breckenridge, Colo., the new RMU taproom and showroom has 14 brews on tap and locally-sourced snacks available as well. The 1,000-foot showroom side will feature some pretty cool stuff like a ski press, and clinics throughout the winter season, along with full tuning services and ski demos.
RMU started with a humble beginning in 2008 in owner Mike Waesche’s garage where he began pressing and hand crafting skis. Now, the ski company is world-renowned and recently won Powder Magazine’s skiers choice award for best women’s ski (the Valhalla), and best men’s ski (the Northshore).
“I’m proud of our company and our team because we don’t sit still,” says Mike Waesche. “We could’ve stayed with skis, but this path is unique because we don’t just make skis. We’re also a bar now and we make dog collars, and it comes back to living here — the Breckenridge lifestyle. Maybe we’re just doing whatever we want, who knows?”
Sounds pretty great to us.
RMU’s taproom will feature award-winning beer from New Belgium and Broken Compass among other renowned breweries, and don’t forget to bring your four-legged friend to check out RMU.
In mid-December, RMU will have a community event to celebrate the opening of their new space. The event will feature a silent auction, local food vendors and fundraisers.
Rocky Mountain Underground’s taproom and showroom is located at 114 S. Main Street in downtown Breckenridge.
