Peruse the latest in handmade bike designs and down free beer at the Rocky Mountain Bike Show.
Think you’re all that on your new “29er?” That’s so 2008 of you. How about a titanium “36er?” Or a $25,000 Jacaranda-wood road bike?
These highlights from last year are just the type of surprises you’ll find at the second annual Rocky Mountain Bike Show, to be held August 22-23 at the National Western Complex in Denver. The RMBS began last year in Boulder, primarily as an intimate exhibit of some of the nation’s best independent frame builders—many of whom, like Ground Up and Black Sheep, hand-build their creations right here in Colorado.
This year however—under new title sponsor Bicycling magazine, and in a much roomier venue—a larger array of mainstream companies (names TBA) will also be showing their wares, from full bikes to components to apparel and nutrition. But fear not, traditionalists; independents are still the focus here. An area called The Frame Builders’ Gallery “will highlight the true artists in the world of bicycle manufacturing,” according to show director Carol Johnson.
“Riders, racers and fans of industrial design and handcraftsmanship can get up close and personal with some of the finest bicycles and bicycle products in the world, and meet the personalities behind some iconic brands,” says Matt Alford from Moots.
And this year’s event is family-friendly, with a kids art and bike skills area, public roller races and velo-based art and history exhibits. Oh, and did we mention free beer? Local craft brewers will be on hand with free samples to quench the thirst you build up from drooling over bikes all day.
Tickets cost $10 at the door and kids under 12 are free.
