We want to see your faces! We love adventuring as just the two of us, but let’s face it — we’ve been staring at each other for a whole month now. Some new faces would be a great change of pace. Come by and see us, invite us to adventure with you, or ask us what we have coming up in the next few days and join! Below is our festival and community event ‘pit stops’ schedule for May (spanning the East Coast and Colorado). Let us know when you want to add to our adventure party of two!
May 5th-6th: Cheat River Festival
Albright, W.Va.
With a sweet graphic poster and an even sweeter lineup of bluegrass bands, Cheat River Festival is a party with a good cause. The annual festival is a celebration of Spring and the life it brings every time the earth circles the sun. One of our favorite parts about the festival is its focus on minimizing its own environmental impact — striving to become an eco-friendly celebration is no easy feat!
May 7th: Cheat Fest River Clean Up
Albright, W.Va.
Blue Ridge Outdoors Magazine and Blackwater Outdoor Adventures are partnering up again for the second annual post-Cheat Fest river cleanup! Wrap up a sustainable festival with a good conscience and help us clean the Cheat. Bring you own boat and meet us at Rowlesburg Town Park at 11am. Can’t BYOB? Email jess@blueridgeoutdoors.com and RSVP to reserve one from Blackwater Outdoor Adventures. Act fast! They only have a few up for grabs.
May 14th: Mother’s Day Group Hike
Waynesboro, Va.
We wouldn’t be here without our mothers! Come spend some quality time with your mama, and Mother Earth, and celebrate all types of creators. Rockfish Gap Outfitters and Blue Ridge Outdoors Magazine are leading a beginner-friendly group hike to the summit of Turk Mountain in the southern district of Shenandoah National Park. Meet at Basic City Beer Co. for a no hiker left behind hike up the hill!
May 18th: Appalachian Trail Days Trail Magic
Damascus, Va.
Have you ever been on the longest, hardest hike and you think, “How great would an ice cream sandwich be right now?” AND THEN ONE APPEARS?! That is what Appalachian Trail Days Trail Magic is. And you should want to be a part of it, because there will be so many tears of happiness.
May 19-21st: 30th Annual Appalachian Trail Days Festival
Damascus, Va.
You are who you surround yourself with, so why not surround yourself with badass thru-hikers who love being outside, and partying. There are enough activities here for the whole family, so bring the kiddos on Saturday, and then stay that evening for tunes, trail talk, and incredible vendors (including us)! The festival runs three days, and everyone is encouraged to camp in nearby campgrounds to keep the celebration going.
ROAD TRIP TO COLORADO!
Free for the week of May 22nd-May 26th and want to caravan across the country? You’re in luck! Follow the bikes and kayaks out to Colorado (with a possible Badlands pitstop on the way).
May 26th-28th: CKS Paddlefest
Buena Vista, Colo.
I’ve never been to a town with a more scenic backdrop, and to pair a benefit paddling festival with that beauty, creates an event not to be missed. The CKS Paddlefest website describes Buena Vista best, “It is the mountain town that just won’t quit, and the summer months give it the soul that makes it a nook worth exploring.” Cheers the opening of the summer season with a celebration that comes in all forms, shapes, and sizes — flat water, white water, and land.
May 29th: River Park Cleanup
Buena Vista, Colo.
Even with the most respectful of festival goers, there’s always some casualties of trash left behind. Let’s get together and return River Park back to its natural, clean state! Join us, and co-sponsors CKS Main Street & Eddyline Brewery, at 9am at the stage on The Beach at South Main to give back to the Buena Vista community!
Come one, come all. Come to one, come to all!
