As summer comes to a close and cooler weather rolls in, Buena Vista is looking to the mountains for another season full of adventure. And what better way to celebrate fall in the Rocky Mountains than to set aside a weekend fully dedicated to outdoor fun? That’s why Buena Vista is inviting outdoor enthusiasts to take the trails together during 14er Fest on September 29th – October 1st.
14er Fest is a new mountain festival that features a wild variety of activities, including Hiking, Off-Roading, Mountain Biking, Fly Fishing and Trail Running.
All events will be in the form of group meet-ups on the area’s vast network of trails. Fest goers can take part in jeep rides, hikes, casting clinics, trail runs, rock crawling, UTV rides, fly fishing outings, and numerous other festival activities.
All the activities are free, with the exception of Sunday’s trail runs: the one-mile family fun run, the 5.8 mile Sleeping Indian Hill Climb or the mega-challenging 28K trail run.
Since Buena Vista rests in the county with the highest concentration of 14ers in all of Colorado (and the nation!), endless trails are accessible just minutes from downtown BV. That doesn’t mean there won’t be a host of things to do downtown as well, though.
Vendors from a variety of industries will be present in the Vendor Expo Center right next to local outdoor shop The Trailhead in downtown Buena Vista. Some of the vendors include Hoka, prAna, Patagonia, Big Agnes, Mountain Standard, Trails OffRoad, Tomken, The Colorado Fourteeners Initiative and more.
Live music and libations from some of Colorado’s best breweries will be available outside behind The Watershed, a new space that neighbors The Trailhead.
One of the main sponsors of 14er Fest is the Ark Valley Libations Society (AVLS), a coalition of local breweries, a winery, and two distilleries: Elevation Beer Company, Soulcraft Brewing, Eddyline Brewery, Moonlight Pizza & Brewpub, Vino Salida Wine Cellars, Wood’s High Mountain Distillery, and The Deerhammer Distillery.
Along with manning the beer garden, the AVLS members are creating a limited-edition collaboration beer called the AVLS Vol. 1 for the event. The beer is a barrel-aged blend of Elevation’s Apis Honey Quadrupel (Apis IV) with a British strong style ale recipe by Soulcraft brewers. Eddyline Brewing is blending and canning this rare specialty.
After the outdoor music ends, late-night music will continue down the street at The Lariat in downtown BV with tunes from DeadPhish Orchestra and Bonfire Dub & Friends.
Fest goers can get the full BV experience by taking part in festival camping right in downtown Buena Vista. Both RV and tents spots will be available, but you must reserve ahead of time; spaces are limited.
14er Fest is sure to be filled with a fantastic mix of outdoor fun. Who doesn’t love crisp mornings, fall color in the Aspens, and loads of adventure in the mountains? We’ll see you on September 29th for this celebration of fall in Colorado.
