What if there was one place in Colorado where you could camp riverside, jump in a raft for a day trip, drink freshly poured beer from a tap, grab a meal, ride some singletrack, and more?
Sounds dreamy, right?
Well, the good news is such a paradise exists on the banks of the Arkansas River in Buena Vista.
Shadowed by 14,000-foot Collegiate Peaks and on the edge of Browns Canyon National Monument, RMOC’s riverside adventure outpost is so much more than a rafting outfitter. A short drive from Colorado Springs and Denver, this is an outdoor destination where visitors stay for multiple days while fulfilling their Colorado outdoor dream—riverside camping, multiple recreational opportunities, fresh brews and food, a bike park… the list goes on.
Rustic and ideal for kicking back, RMOC’s adventure outpost offers the amenities you need to leave your extra gear at home. Travel light and camp in an individual or group site on a coveted Arkansas River site where you’ll have private river access.
Jump into the river with your own gear or rent what you need from RMOC. This outfitter offers rafts, kayaks, and stand-up paddleboards on site. If you’re not comfortable heading out on your own, RMOC offers many guided trip options on the river and beyond. RMOC’s guided trips and instruction include rafting, kayaking, standup paddle boarding, rocking climbing, mountain biking, and mountaineering. There’s even a kayak pool to practice your roll or receive instruction on how to do it.
If you’d rather hop on a bike than on the river, RMOC’s adventure outpost will not disappoint. New in 2022 is the Junk Yard Bike Park, named after the recycled materials—like concrete, asphalt, telephone poles, and even old vehicles—that make up the skeleton of the park.
Special features include a jump over an old caprice classic car (known locally as White Lightning) and a drop-in off an old school bus. The freshly built bike park also includes four different lines featuring beginner to pro features, a pump track, and a small skills area in the middle of the track. From the Junk Yard Bike Park, visitors can also ride to RMOC’s singletrack trails that offer mellow downhill lines as well as some intermediate/advanced rock drop features.
Open to everyone and free to use, the Junk Yard Bike Park is the biggest bike park within a 100-mile radius. While guests are welcome to bring their own bikes, Dirt Jumpers—bikes designed for aerial stunts and landing jumps—are available to rent for $50.
After a day of adventure, come back to your campsite and kick back with Browns Canyon Brewing Company, RMOC’s on-site brewery. Browns Canyon Brewing Company is a gathering place for beer-loving adventurers to grab a meal, share epic tales, plan future endeavors, or simply revel in a community of outdoor-minded individuals. Its expansive outside beer garden is family-friendly, featuring games and toys for the very young and young-at-heart.
When you come to stay at RMOC, you get the full package—a wonderful place to camp, fun activities for people of all ages, beer and food, rental equipment, and guided trips on and off the river. It’s the ultimate Colorado adventure outpost, and it’s waiting for you.
